48k OThello-Hope to Agassiz for FraserFEST
- KML/KMZ files can be opened in Google Earth, and many smartphone apps.
- GPX files can be opened by most GPS software apps when KMZ cannot. Note, GPX files do not contain custom colours and icons that we use on our maps; all tracks and icons will appear the same colours and styles. We recommend using KMZ instead when possible.
- GPX-Garmin are GPX files that we have optimized for older Garmin units that only display tracks that contain 500 points or less (such as Garmin eTrex units).
Visit our GPS & Navigation page for instructions of how to use your smartphone as a GPS device (even when outside of data coverage) or how to import data to your Garmin unit.
About the Journey:
This 48k cycle route features the famous Othello Canyon with its tunnels, bridges, and rapids, the Coquihalla River, Sucker Creek Fish Channels, Hope Center, the Fraser River, and Seabird Island with its picturesque Maria Slough. Much of it is on Highway 7 which has quite a good cycling shoulder and is the main cycling route between Agassiz and Hope on the Trans Canada Trail. While always close to the shores and view of the Fraser River access is mainly not possible because of the active railway that is between the Highway and the river. It features the former KVR crossing of the Fraser in Hope (for viewing only at this time) and the location of its terminal train station at Odlum. The trip offers exceptional views of the mountain peaks such as Cheam Peak, Foley, Four Brothers, Sowerby, Ludwig, etc on the opposite shore of the Fraser River. Also, you will be made aware of the First Nation Reserves along this route.
Allow 5 hours for the cycling trip.
We invite you to try this routing on your own. Because it is a linear route, shuttling between Othello and Cheam Fishing Village is necessary.
We are planning this excusion for Thursday August 23, 2018.
The following are the expected event instructions:
We are aiming to be at the social and Salmon Feast in Agassiz where we parked at Cheam Fishing Village at about 6:00 p.m.
Watch for updates to meeting time and place along with shuttle arrangements. So far, we are to be at the Cheam Fishing Village by 10:00 a.m. to be shuttled to the Othello Tunnels Parking lot where we will start our ride.
Register here on the Rivershed Society website and also RSVP for this ride on the Trails BC Meetup Page - (you will need to become a member of the meetup and can easily decline the membership after the meetup - the membership is free)
