This route is considered multi-use but involves some very challenging grades; we consider it more suited to mountain biking and hiking only. Touring cyclists may wish to give it a pass and use our bypass route which travels on roadways instead. Take great care when crossing the highway. The trail is fairly easy with minimal grades. It is a mountain bike and hiking trail but most cyclists should find it relatively unchallenging. TCT Multi-Use: Sparwood to Fording (22.5 km) TCT Multi-Use: Fording to Elkford (20.2 km) Alternate: Elk Valley Trail (Hosmer to Ingham 13 km) The Elk Valley Trail between Hosmer and Ingham is open and available to the public, but is not designated as part of the Trans Canada Trail, due to wildlife concerns in the area. Users are invited to use the trail rather than the official route of the TCT along the highway. Alternate: Elk Valley Ranch (2.4 km) An interesting alternative to the official TCT route (which uses roadways) is the roadway/trail through the Elk Valley Ranch.
