Tribute to Bill Archibald – Legacy of TCT and Trails Society of BC
Bill Archibald passed away February 3, 2020 at age 90.6

Those  of us within the trail movement will remember Bill Archibald well during his many years of volunteer time spent in this endeavour for the whole province and to some extent nationally.  Bill along with Sherman Olson (who passed way June 9, 2013) were the main organizers of a backcountry equestrian event that asked equestrians to ride from the three oceans to Ottawa to celebrate Canada 125, in 1992 thus giving the idea for a Trans Canada Trail.  Bill, with Sherman, founded Trails BC with the purpose of establishing the Trans Canada Trail in BC, an organization asked to be formed by the Outdoor Recreation Council to take on this task.  With Trails BC, he always was a director until 2014 where he served as Route Coordinator, Vice President and President during its most critical years.

His name should be honoured at some location for his important contribution leading the trail movement, here and in the province.  I would expect that this should be at a location in Maple Ridge and should receive some sort of national recognition.

It has been announced that the celebration of Bill’s life will be held at The Ranch Pub & Grill, 21973 132 Avenue, Maple Ridge on February 23, 2020, at 12 p.m.

Let’s be reminded that it takes determined people like Bill Archibald to make important things happen against all odds to leave behind legacies that benefit us all.
