Coquihalla Summit T75

Coquihalla Summit T75

This intriguing part of the Trans Canada Trail in the Coquihalla Summit can be challenging for some cyclists.  There is no access off the trail for about 25 km requiring one to be self-sufficient while being isolated is a super attraction for many people.  A lot of the trail while following the KVR corridor is on service roads and is hilly in places.  The highlights are: Bridal Veil Falls from Falls Lake, Needle Creek cathedral-like railroad abutments and piers, Hole-in-the-Wall with a waterfall, the rail grade approaching Portia, tunnels (1 intact, the others collapsed), Collapsed snowsheds, Ladner Creek, and the rail grade through Jessica.  Allow about 6 hours for this ride and start at the top end of the summit for a much more pleasant ride that allows for more downhill.

This is one section that cyclists might not mind going there and back making for a longer ride and it feels like a different ride on the way back.  One never tires seeing and riding this section of trail that takes in the Coquihalla Canyon with its tunnels and trestles.  Expect this rail grade to be on a gentle slope.

Chilliwack Lake to Thurston Rec Site T73

Chilliwack Lake to Thurston Rec Site T73

This is definitely one of the more challenging rides on the Trans Canada Trail but expect it to be great fun, especially, if you are a mountain biker.  Some of us would definitely need to push our bike uphill in some sections.  What a great way of appreciating this great valley.  This definitely needs to be travelled from Chilliwack Lake down the valley to Thurston.  Allow about 4 hours for this ride.

Cultus Lake to Tamihi Rec Site t72

Cultus Lake to Tamihi Rec Site t72

This is quite an adventurous rewarding section of the Trans Canada Trail with some hill climbing and quite a lot of Forest Service Roads.  There is a pleasant greenway at both ends of this trip, that is, at the Cultus Lake end and at the other along the Chilliwack River to Tamihi Creek.  Allow about 2.5 hrs for the ride.  We highly recommend doing the ride heading up the Valley.

Chilliwack Fraser River Dikes t71

Chilliwack Fraser River Dikes t71

This ride takes you through Chilliwack on what will eventually become a complete greenway.  Once on the Fraser River Dike System, it is a great ride all the way to the Agassiz Bridge.  On the way, you may wish to visit Island 22 Regional Park.  Without this visit, this ride should take about 2.5 hours.
